Technical Requirements
To ensure optimal performance and full access to the TypeTastic learning platform, each device used by students should meet the minimum technical requirements outlined below. These specifications allow students to fully engage with our curriculum, including keyboarding, digital citizenship, and CodeMonkey coding lessons.
Failure to meet these requirements may result in reduced functionality or performance issues.
General Requirements
- Broadband Internet connection
- Speakers or headphones for audio-based activities
System Requirements:
- 1.5 GHz Core2Duo or equivalent
- 2 GB RAM

Supported Browsers
We recommend using the most current browser version available. TypeTastic supports:
- Google Chrome (current version and up to three previous versions)
- Mozilla Firefox (current version and up to three previous versions)
- Microsoft Edge (latest version)
- Safari (latest version)
- Older browsers may not support all features.
Internet Bandwidth
- 8Mbps for a class of 30 students.
Tablet Compatibility
Tablets must meet the following specifications:
- iPad running the latest version of iOS or one major version prior
- Android tablet running the latest version of Android or one major version prior
Keyboarding Requirements
- TypeTastic keyboarding lessons require a physical keyboard except My Keyboard Adventure
- Fully compatible with Chromebook keyboards
- When using a tablet (including iPad), an external keyboard is required
- Touchscreen-only devices are not suitable for keyboarding instruction
CodeMonkey Integration
System Requirements:
- 1.5 GHz Core2Duo or equivalent
- 2 GB RAM
- At least 1280 x 720 screen resolution
Bandwidth:
- 8Mbps for a class of 30 students.
Browser support:
- Browsers should be updated to their latest version.
- Chrome
- Firefox
- Edge
- Safari - on iPads, we support iOS15 and higher.
- Earphones recommended
Network
If you have a content/website filter applied on your network, please allow these domains to ensure CodeMonkey is working properly:
- app.codemonkey.com
- www.codemonkey.com
- *.cloudfront.net (meaning any subdomain of cloudfront.net)
fonts.gstatic.com
Tablet Compatibility:
Any tablet that can run Safari or Chrome browsers can run the following course with a touch interface:
- CodeMonkey Jr.
- Beaver Achiever
- Coding Adventure Part 1 and Part 2
- Dodo Does Math
When connecting an external keyboard, use your browser’s “Request desktop site” feature to be able to type using the keyboard and access all other courses.
Exceptions
Android versions prior to v.7.1.1 - only the Firefox browser is supported.
